"Filling in an Empty Space"

Creativity keeps me alive in many ways, it makes me sacrifice things people think I "should" be doing while also teaching me who I am without the noise and pressure and committments and timelines people plan out for their lives. Personally, I find my relationship with a blank piece of paper just as important as my relationship to society. I can't have one without the other, they both help me grow and live my life as I truly am and I finally realize I am not the only person in the world who feels this way.

As part of the newly launched Pattern Observer Book Club, I began reading Twyla Tharp's "The Creative Habit". She writes about her life spent as a highly creative choreographer stressing the importance of a creative individual's self-established daily routine. It's beautiful and reassuring to those others like me who feel insane for wanting/needing to wake up at 4:30am every morning in order to get a sketch out of their heads on and onto a piece of paper, translating a dream that will probably look like shit, but that piece of shit dream on paper needs to exist or else you lose it forever to the sewage drain of a day filled with noise and emails and instashit.

So cheers to that!
